News from campus and beyond
An iconic symbol
The Greenville News has published a brief history of the Furman Bell Tower. The author is Judy Bainbridge, a former Furman English professor and local historian.
The original Furman Bell Tower was erected on the downtown campus in 1854 using bricks and mortar made from the red clay of Reedy River. The iconic structure was later razed. But an exact replica was later built on the current Furman campus.
