Lisa Cassidy ’02 to lead Liberty Middle School

Liberty Middle School will welcome Lisa Cassidy ’02 as its new principal for the coming school year.

Cassidy comes to Liberty from Anderson School District One, where she has served as the director of planning and development since 2013. From 2009 to 2013, she was the instructional assistant principal at Palmetto Middle School, where she also taught language arts and social studies from 1999 to 2005. From 2005-2009, she was the instructional assistant principal at Cedar Grove Elementary School in Williamston.

She has also spent summers in the classroom as a teacher in the Bridges to a Brighter Future and WINGS programs for middle and high school students at Furman University.

“Mrs. Cassidy has unique experience and qualifications that we think will make her a strong leader at Liberty Middle,” said School District of Pickens County Superintendent Dr. Danny Merck. “She knows the challenges for students making the transition from elementary school, and she has a vision for how middle school sets the stage for success in high school and college.”

Prior to working in South Carolina schools, Cassidy taught at Catholic Central School in Buffalo, N.Y., for one year. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology from Bethany College, a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in School Leadership and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Furman University. She is working toward a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of South Carolina.

She is a member of the National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators, the South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators, and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. Cassidy, a resident of Easley, is also a reviewer for Palmetto Administrator.
