Furman turns on solar array

“Furman University has flipped the switch on the largest solar project on a South Carolina university campus, as the university takes another step toward a carbon-neutral future,” writes Nathaniel Cary of The Greenville News. The $1.7 million solar farm is located on six acres of university-owned land between Old Buncombe Road and Poinsett Highway and will supply enough energy to power about 5 percent of Furman’s energy needs. The farm also presents an opportunity for Furman students. Says Furman President Elizabeth Davis, “In addition to increasing the university’s solar power production and reducing our energy costs, the new solar facility will serve as a laboratory for Furman students pursuing careers in sustainability.”
