Furman completes $1.7M solar farm

Furman University is inching closer to reducing its carbon footprint. April 25 marks the day the university will connect more than 2,000 photovoltaic solar panels to the electrical grid that promise to reduce the university’s electricity expenditures by up to 5 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by at least 3 percent. The 743-kW solar farm, which boasts the largest solar installation on a college campus in South Carolina, is located on about six acres near the main campus entrance along Poinsett Highway. The solar farm’s progress was covered by Andrew Moore of the Greenville Journal, and several Furman representatives go on record: President Elizabeth Davis; Associate Vice President, Facility and Campus Services Jeff Redderson; Construction Manager Elcainey Baker; and Associate Director of Sustainability Assessment Laura Bain.
