The Furman University Department of Communication Studies has received The Minority Recruitment and Retention Award from the Southern States Communication Association, (SSCA). The award will be presented during the association’s 87th annual meeting to be held this year at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville, April 5-9.

The Minority Recruitment and Retention Award honors institutions that have demonstrated noteworthy commitment to the recruitment and retention of minority students for their campuses. In the 11 years since the award was established in 2006, only five institutions have been recognized with the Minority Recruitment and Retention Award.

Said Cynthia King, Chair and Associate Professor, “Although we’re among the smallest departments, we’re pleased that Communication Studies ranks fourth in the number of minority students in Furman’s academic departments. We are committed to supporting the university in the effort to create a more diverse and inclusive campus.”
