In honor of International Women’s Day, Sojourners asked a few of their favorite women leaders about their personal hopes, faiths, fights for justice, and how their womanhood surrounds and informs those aspects. Furman Politics and International Affairs graduate Emily Wirzba (Class of 2013) was one of 10 leaders interviewed. As Policy Associate for Sustainable Energy and Environment for the Friends Committee on National Legislation in Washington, D.C., Wirzba lobbies to achieve bipartisan recognition of climate change in Congress. She says, “Constituent advocacy works! I hope that people will engage in respectful but truthful dialogue with elected officials and recognize their ability to enact structural change.”
