Muslims and refugees, integral part of Greenville

Furman religion professor Alfons Teipen adds to the voices railing against President Trump and his temporary travel ban he imposed late January. In a commentary for The Greenville News, Teipen looks at immigrants, both local and national, who have enhanced the way we live in the United States. He admonishes us to “…make sure that this country of ours stays free of unfounded fears and suspicions, and continues to be fortified by the bravery of fellow humans just like these.” Teipen has taught religion at Furman since 1997. His areas of specialty include Islam and Abrahamic religions, and he serves as chair of Furman’s Middle East and Islamic Studies minor.
