Kyle Simmons, Adam Johnson, Madison Schoen and Brett Greensmith ’17 were among those selected this year as Distinguished Military Graduates. In total, 20 percent of the nearly 6,000 Cadets who will commission this year were awarded this honor by U.S. Army Cadet Command.

In order for a student to be considered for selection as a Distinguished Military Graduate he or she must be recommended as a Distinguished Military Student by their respective professor of military science; be in good academic standing with their respective college or university with a GPA of 3.0 or higher; successfully complete Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, Ky.; demonstrate outstanding potential to serve as a commissioned officer; and rank among the top 20 percent of all cadets on the National Order of Merit List.

In addition to the rigorous academic requirements of Furman University, these cadets conduct early morning physical training three to five times per week and hold leadership positions within the campus ROTC department.  On average, Distinguished Military Graduates across the nation have a 3.7 or higher GPA and have completed advanced military training prior to commissioning such as Airborne School, Mountain Warfare School and Air Assault School.
