Elizabeth Bishop, a 1989 Furman graduate, has a resume many opera singers can only dream of. She has sung leading roles around the world, and she gained national attention for singing two different roles at the Metropolitan Opera in a single day. She has sung the title role in Poul Ruders’s opera “The Handmaid’s Tale” at the Minnesota Opera, and has been featured in the national PBS broadcast of Conrad Susa’s “The Dangerous Liaisons.”  Now that she’s returning to the Washington National Opera in its upcoming “The Marriage of Figaro,” The Washington Post wrote about the mezzo-soprano who is the “epitome of what success actually looks like.” Bishop doubled majored in music and political science at Furman.
