Madeline Clark ’04 Makes a Difference

2004 Political Science and Spanish graduate Madeline Clark Mavrogordato might be the epitome of teacher involvement. In an article in One Day Magazine by Keesa McKoy, the author describes Mavrogordato’s relationship with one of her third grade students whom she taught in 2004 through Teach For America in the Rio Grande Valley. Throughout the 12 years following that teaching experience, Mavrogordato stayed in touch with Jessica Gonzalez, and was instrumental in her being admitted to Michigan State’s Honor College. A first-generation Mexican American, Gonzales plans to return to Mission, Texas to teach. She says, “Madeline instilled in me the courage to challenge the broken system in which I was born … [her involvement and guidance have] inspired me to do the same for my community.”
