Why Some Latinos Support Donald Trump

Dr. Bryan Betancur, a Colombian-American who teaches Spanish at Furman, writes in the Fair Observer that the 55 million Latinos in the United States embody diversity.
“We come from African, European, Asian and indigenous backgrounds,” he writes. “We represent every shade of skin, eye and hair color. We are Catholic, Protestant, Muslim and Jewish. We run the political spectrum from conservative to liberal.”
But while that diversity is worth celebrating, Betancur believes that a Latino who supports Donald Trump “is a textbook example of internalized oppression.”
