Doubling Down on Accountability and Discipline
In an op-ed for The Post and Courier in Charleston, education professor Paul Thomas writes that Charleston County is making a wise and important decision to reform discipline policies in the school district. While education reform has been prominent in South Carolina and across the U.S. since the late 1970s and early 1980s. it has been proven time and time again that doubling down on accountability and discipline has not created the outcomes promised. In fact, Thomas says, it has resulted in many unintended negative consequences.
