McKinney ’15 featured in early childhood journal
Sarah McKinney ’15 recently had an article published in Perspectives and Provocations in Early Childhood Education, a journal of The Early Childhood Education Assembly.
The article, “Do Kindergarten Students Play Anymore?” discusses the conflict McKinney faces as an early childhood educator of fulfilling state standards while providing developmentally appropriate activities that support the development of the whole child.
McKinney, now in her eighth year as an educator, currently teaches kindergarten at Hunt Meadows Elementary School in Anderson District 1. She received her master of arts degree in education with a concentration in literacy last year.
The Early Childhood Education Assembly (http://www.earlychildhoodeducationassembly.com/) is a young, vibrant group of teachers, teacher educators, researchers, and educational leaders concerned with issues related to the languages and literacies of children from birth to age eight, their families, and their communities.
