For the second consecutive year, Furman University asked its alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff and students from around the world to support the university during a special spirit and giving campaign that spanned 24 hours.  And, once again, those supporters came through in a big way.

Furman celebrated Dins Day on April 26, which was also the university’s last day of classes.  The preliminary numbers show that Furman received more than 1,600 gifts totaling $1,010,0000 during the 24-hour period.  Combined with last year’s celebration, the Dins Day events have raised more than $2 million in support of the university.

“There was so much energy and excitement around this campaign for a second year in a row, and we saw proud Paladins from around the world showcasing their purple pride,” said Justin Rourk ‘14, Associate Director of Development Communications at Furman and coordinator of the campaign.  “In addition to increased engagement, we were thrilled to have another successful fundraising effort that brought in even more money than last year.”

The funds raised on Dins Day will support scholarships, academic departments, athletic teams, and many more programs at Furman.

While Furman students were entertained by a variety of events and games on campus and most of the Furman faculty and staff were dressed in purple, other supporters from around the nation and world were connecting to the university through social media. According to university officials, the campaign reached approximately one million people on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

For this year’s Dins Day, the university also added special events in Greenville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Charleston, Nashville, and Washington, D.C.

“Dins Day” is modeled after similar 24-hour spirit and fundraising blitzes taking place at both big and small universities around the country. More details about this year’s campaign may be found on the Dins Day homepage.
