Furman University Art professor Terri Bright and English professor Willard Pate have published books of photographs. Their work will be celebrated during a reception and book signing with the artists Wednesday, April 27 at 3 p.m. in the Roe Art Building on campus.

Sonnets by Bright is a collection of 39 photographs published by Flash Powder Projects (2016). With Animals by Pate includes 50 photographs depicting the people and animals of South America and Cuba. Pate’s book is published by BazanPhotos Publishing (2015), an independent publishing house founded by Cuban photographer Ernesto Bazan.

Bright says, “In Sonnets, I create quiet, lyrical narratives from the everyday – inorganic forms disclose life-like characteristics, randomly placed objects seem purposeful, bent frames become graceful. These images are like small meditations, granting permission to pause, and creating space for contemplation. Forgotten items and ordinary spaces possess a kind of wilted beauty that alternately suggest playfulness, tranquility, melancholy and desire.”

About Pate’s work, BazanPhotos founder Ernesto Bazan says, “…[Pate] has created a body of work, which reflects her unique way of looking and feeling the world. The photographs in this book are microcosms of our own existence; they are meditations on the life of the animals, on our life as humans, and the life we share together with animals.”
