Student research, creative activity, performances, internships, study away, service learning — spanning the natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. The eighth annual Furman Engaged! Celebration on Tuesday, April 12 showcased all forms of engaged learning.

More than 500 students, from freshmen to seniors, shared in presentations throughout campus which included original works of art, music and writing. In lieu of attending regular classes, students participated as both presenters and attendees.

As part of mid-day festivities, students could sample cuisine from Mexico to China as part of the International Food Festival and enjoy live music at The Paddock from the Furman Jazz Combos. Forty-five oral sessions covered nearly every academic discipline at Furman and 200 posters highlighting research projects and internship experiences from around the world were on display in the library and at the Physical Activities Center.

“The Furman Engaged! Celebration exemplifies the engaged learning philosophy which has become the hallmark of a Furman education,” said John Kaup, coordinator of science education and Furman Engaged! “We’re proud to recognize the scholarly and creative accomplishments of these exceptional men and women.”
