Experts say a bill filed in the South Carolina Senate that would restrict transgender people’s access to restrooms and changing rooms could bring business problems that have plagued other states that have enacted similar legislation.  But Furman business professor Tom Smythe says much of the potential damage may already have been done. “The fact that the bill has been introduced at all creates this perception, rightly or wrongly, that South Carolina is behind the times,” Smythe said in a front-page article in The Greenville News. “Just the introduction of the bill almost may cause as much damage as if it were passed.”
