Diversity and Inclusion Committee awards grants
In keeping with its mission to sustain a dynamic community that respects the inherent worth of all people, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion is going about the business of securing funding for a number of initiatives on campus. Four different organizations have been named award recipients by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Pam Davis, Director of Bridges to a Brighter Future, was awarded a grant for training Bridges Foundation summer program counselors and staff.
With grant funds awarded to Undergraduate Evening Studies (UES), Director Beth Crews aims to extend Furman’s reach into the Hispanic adult community through articles and advertising in Latino newspaper.
Onyx Henry, Adjunct Professor in Modern Languages & Literatures, received funds to bring students from Shelby High School to the Furman campus for a day.
Another grant recipient, international student advisor Chrissy McCrary, will attend “Crossing Cultures with Competence” train-the-trainer program.
Additional small grant applications will be available through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in early fall 2016. For more information contact the office at 864. 294.2202.
