Paul Thomas weighs in on school takeovers

“Turnaround school district” is the name given to schools where state charter initiatives are applied to salvage at-risk or low-performing schools. The moniker has all sorts of positive connotations—180-degree change, an educational about-face, and school district overhaul are some thoughts that may come to mind. Furman University education professor Paul Thomas writes an opinion piece about South Carolina schools, and points to evidence that shows school takeovers may not be working as intended.
