Ten college teams on campus this weekend for Southern Rugby Conference Tournament

Ten college rugby teams will take part in the inaugural Southern Rugby Conference Tournament Saturday and Sunday at Furman.

Games will be held 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday. The contests will be held on John S. Roberts Field and a football practice field. Admission is free.

Furman, which completed the fall season with a 5-2 record and finished second in the 10-state South Region last spring, enters the tournament as a top seed with Appalachian State, a traditional rugby power.

The Southern Rugby Conference was formed last fall under a college restructuring initiative launched by USA Rugby. The Division II conference includes Furman, Lander, Duke, the Citadel, Elon, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Charlotte, Appalachian State, UNC-Greensboro, College of Charleston, Guilford and Coastal Carolina.

The conference tournament, to be held each January, launches the spring season.
