Events to mark, celebrate Constitution Day

SEPTEMBER 17, 2012

Today is Constitution Day, a celebration of one of America’s most-treasured founding documents.

To mark the occasion, the university is hosting two lectures that will help students better understand the law.

Political Science professors Donald Aiesi , Teresa Cosby and President Rod Smolla will examine the Supreme Court’s Ruling on the Affordable Care Act in a panel discussion titled “Obamacare is Constitutional: Why?”. The event, to be held 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Johns Hall 101, will be moderated by political science professor Brent Nelsen.

Also, Kevin Gutzman, a professor at Western Connecticut State University, will discuss James Madison’s role in the drafting of the Constitution in a 7 p.m. lecture in room 116 of the Lay Physical Activities Center.  The professor is the author of the book Who killed the Constitution? His latest work, James Madison and the Making of America has just been released.
