There are no vending machines at Legacy Charter School in Greenville. The cafeteria doesn’t serve fried foods, and the new fitness center has rows of bikes, treadmills and weight machines. It’s all part of the school’s fitness-focused curriculum and 45-minute-a-day exercise program overseen by Furman Health Sciences professor Julian Reed. The latest results from Dr. Reed’s research at the school examining the link between exercise and cognition was the subject of a front page story in The Greenville News.
