BOOSTing afterschool learning

school kids shutterstockMore than 100,000 children in South Carolina are unsupervised between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m.—a huge chunk of time in which a great deal of learning and mentoring can take place. Melissa Huff (United Way of Greenville County) and Cathy Stevens (Riley Institute at Furman University) aim to ensure children have the opportunity to make the most of afterschool time. The two, with support from their respective expanded learning initiatives, are presenting “Aligning Afterschool, Growing Graduates: Greenville County Afterschool Summit,” which takes place Jan. 25 at the Kroc Center in Greenville.
