Siefert breaks down language barriers
On the field and in the locker room, baseball lingo comes easy for Greenville Drive recruits who hail from non-English-speaking countries. But ordering a meal at a restaurant? Shopping? Answering questions from the media? Let’s just say many of the native Spanish-speaking athletes would rather hole up in the dugout. Enter Furman professor and coordinator of the teaching English to speakers of other languages program Dr. Bobbi Siefert. She worked with Drive general manager Eric Jarinko to help seven Boston Red Sox hopefuls break through their language barrier with English integration classes.
