It’s almost time for the new school year

Furman University’s 2015-16 academic year will officially get underway Tuesday, Aug. 25 when students attend their first day of classes.

Approximately 710 freshmen will report to campus Friday, Aug. 21, while the rest of the university’s 2,700 students will begin arriving on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Furman will hold its opening convocation Thursday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. in McAlister Auditorium.

This year’s freshman class represents 39 states and 19 countries.  With an average GPA of 4.4, a third of the group were National Honors Society members and over a quarter were two-sport varsity athletes. Thirty of the freshmen were student body presidents at their high schools.

The fall term ends Dec. 8, while spring term begins Jan. 11 and ends Apr. 26.  Commencement will be held Saturday, May 7.  The May Experience term will run May 11-June 1.
