Daniel Mahoney speaks about “Christianity & the Religion of Humanity”

Daniel J. Mahoney, Professor of Political Science at Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), will speak on the Furman University campus Thursday, April 9, at 5 p.m. in Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center.

His talk, “Christianity and the Religion of Humanity,” is presented by Furman’s Ernest J. Walters, Jr. Lecture Series in Political Thought, the Tocqueville Program, and the Political Thought Club. The event is free and open to the public, and is part of the university’s Cultural Life Program.

Dr. Mahoney’s areas of scholarly expertise include statesmanship, religion and politics, French political philosophy, and antitotalitarian thought. He currently serves as the Augustine Chair in Distinguished Scholarship at Assumption College.

Mahoney is the author of books about Raymond Aron, Charles de Gaulle, Bertrand de Jouvenel, and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and has also edited or co-edited many books. His most recent books include The Conservative Foundations of the Liberal Order and The Other Solzhenitsyn. 

His essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in a wide range of public and scholarly journals in the United States and abroad. In 1999, he was the recipient of the Prix Raymond Aron, an award named after the distinguished French political thinker who renewed Tocqueville’s conservative-minded liberalism and vigorously opposed totalitarianism in all its forms.

Mahoney holds a bachelor’s from the College of the Holy Cross and a master’s and doctorate from Catholic University.
