Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble in concert Feb. 20

The Furman University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert Friday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on the Furman campus.

Conducted by Director of Bands Leslie W. Hicken, “Good Night, Dear Heart” is open to the public, and is part of Furman’s Cultural Life Program. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The evening features two consortium world premiere performances by David Holsinger, “Connacht Rhapsody,” and Greenville composer Dan Forrest, “Good Night, Dear Heart.”

The Symphonic Band will present “Manhattan Beach March” by John Philip Sousa and an orchestral transcription by Camille Saint-Saëns, “Pas Redoublé.”

Furman senior music major Alex Jenks will guest conduct the Symphonic Band on Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry” and “Shepherd’s Hey.” The Wind Ensemble will present major compositions for wind band by Joaquin Rodrígo and Morton Gould.
