Furman music professors to present concert Nov. 13

The Furman Faculty Chamber Music Series will present a concert Thursday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on campus.

The recital is open to the public, and is part of Furman’s Sound Quality Concert Series. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students/youth.

Hosted by Furman music professor Dr. Christopher Hutton, the concert features an enjoyable program with a wide variety of music for different combinations of performers. The performance will feature a trio by Robert Fuchs, a set of waltzes by Dmitri Shostakovich, several songs by Robert Schumann, and entertaining newer works by Jan Koetsier and American composer Libby Larsen. The recital will be performed by these Furman faculty members and guests:

David Gross, piano
Christopher Hutton, violoncello
Anna Barbrey Joiner, viola
Thomas Joiner, violin

Bruce Schoonmaker, baritone
Dewitt Tipton, piano

Hutton is an avid performer and is the cellist for Greenville-based Poinsett Piano Trio. A native of New Zealand, Hutton has performed worldwide and worked with a number of orchestras including the New World Symphony and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of Boston University and the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, Hutton taught at the University of Rochester, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the University of Delaware before coming to Furman in 2003.
