Work by Brodeur on display at Pickens County museum

Works by Furman University Associate Professor of Art Michael Brodeur will be featured in an exhibition at the Pickens County Museum of Art and History June 28 through Aug. 14. An opening reception with Brodeur is set for Saturday, June 28, 6-8 p.m. at the museum. The museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursdays 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

“Looking Back, Looking Forward: the work of Michael Brodeur” includes paintings, drawings and selected sculptures which survey Brodeur’s work since his arrival in Greenville 15 years ago.

Among the bodies of work to be shown are: The Sacred and Profane Heart, Pansies and Other Fruits, and Of Cubic Proportions.

Brodeur describes his work as a personal narrative. “Each painting, every drawing is an autobiographical recounting. They all speak to relationship, either one with self or with others,” he says.

Brodeur came to Furman in 2003 and holds an M.F.A. in painting and drawing from Boston University where he studied with Philip Guston. He has exhibited nationally and internationally in numerous solo and group shows, and his work has twice appeared in New American Paintings (editions #58 and #100). Brodeur’s work is also on display at if ART Gallery in Columbia.
