The U.S. men’s national soccer team heads to Brazil next month for the World Cup and the squad is counting heavily on the talents of captain Clint Dempsey. A Furman alum, Dempsey returned to America last summer after almost seven years in the English Premier League to join Seattle in one of the biggest coups in Major League Soccer history. Dempsey has eight goals and three assists in nine games this season for the Sounders, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed. “They’ve seen the goals, they see the way he is playing,” said U.S. midfielder Brad Evans, Dempsey’s teammate in Seattle. “It’s a different level.” Read more in the San Jose (Calif.)
