The Scottish Games will take place on the Furman campus Saturday.

The Scottish Games will take place on the Furman campus Saturday.

Colorful kilts, border collies and the sound of bagpipes will be the order of the day when the Greenville Scottish Games get underway this weekend at Furman University.

The festivities will begin Friday, May 23 at 6 p.m. with the Great Scot! Parade in downtown Greenville.

The games will take place at Furman on Saturday, May 24. Gates open at 8 a.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 10:30 a.m. on fields near Paladin Stadium.

More than 600 pipers and drummers will take the field for the parade of colors, clans and a military tribute to veterans from both the United States and Scottish allies. The games include heavy athletics, piping competitions and border collies herding.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Veterans and active duty military personnel with military identification will be admitted free to the games Saturday.
