Broadway gives back

Mary-Mitchell Campbell ’96

Finding the balance between vocation and passion can be a challenge. But Furman alumna Mary-Mitchell Campbell ’96 has somehow found a way to balance her demanding day-job as a Broadway musical director with her passion for helping others as founder and executive director of ASTEP (Artists Striving to End Poverty).

In a recent “Broadway Gives Back” profile of Campbell on, Campbell said, “I wake up every day with a sense of purpose and meaning. Most days I really love my jobs.”

Campbell founded Furman’s Pauper Players in 1992, and today her charitable legacy lives on. The Players donate a portion of ticket sales to charitable organizations, including Campbell’s ASTEP program to bring arts to underprivileged children.
