Training for Warriors creator to speak March 4

Martin Rooney rocks sizedFurman alumnus and fitness expert Martin Rooney will speak Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on the Furman University campus.

His talk, “The Science of Success: How to Succeed in Fitness and in Life,” is free and open to the public. In this motivational program, Rooney examines the science behind fitness, behavioral change, and the history of the fitness industry.

Part of Furman’s Cultural Life program, the event is presented by Furman student organization PHOKUS – Promoting Health Options through Knowledge, Understanding, and Service, the Student Alumni Council, and the Furman University Student Activities Board.

Rooney is an internationally recognized fitness expert, best-selling author, and speaker. A former member of the U.S. Bobsled team, Division I track athlete, and physical therapist, he is currently a partner of the Parisi Speed School and creator of Training for Warriors.

Rooney has traveled to more than 25 countries to conduct seminars. He has presented to Fortune 500 companies such as Marriott International, Nike and Hasbro; military organizations like the Army Rangers and Navy SEALs; professional teams including the New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers and New York Giants; and universities such as Alabama, Arizona State and Oregon State.

In addition to training athletes from the NFL, MLB, UFC, NBA, WNBA as well as numerous Olympic medalists, All-Americans and World Champions, Rooney’s training programs have helped more than 1,000,000 fitness enthusiasts worldwide.

Rooney has written nine books. Among them is Warrior Cardio: The Revolutionary Metabolic Training System for Burning Fat, Building Muscle, and Getting Fit.

Rooney holds a master’s in health science and a bachelor’s in physical therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina, and a bachelor’s in exercise science from Furman University (1993). More about Rooney can be found at this link.
