Furman Mock Trial scores another win

The Furman University Mock Trial Team took first place in the Sixth Annual Commodore Classic hosted in Nashville by Vanderbilt University Jan. 25-26.

The win marks the third victory of the season for the Furman Mock Trial Program, having notched earlier first place finishes at the Fifth Annual Classic City Invitational hosted in Atlanta by University of Georgia Mock Trial, and the 10th Annual Great American Mock Trial Invitational (GAMTI) hosted by the University of Virginia in Washington, D.C.

At the Commodore Classic, where Furman fielded only a single team, the Paladins finished with a record of 6-1-1 (six wins, one loss and one tie). In the final round against an undefeated University of Georgia team, Furman had to win two of two ballots to clinch first place.

The Furman Mock Trial Team members competing in the Commodore Classic include:

•             Jessica Corey ‘14 (Chagrin Falls, Ohio)

•             Caley DeGroote ‘14 (Lyman, S.C.)

•             Mara Hershberger ‘15 (Martinsburg, Penn.)

•             Kaitlyn Pugh ‘17 (Edgefield, S.C.)

•             Melissa Temple ‘17 (Johnson City, Tenn.)

•             Matthew Thomas ‘16 (Winter Haven, Fla.)

DeGroote also won a Most Outstanding Witness Award.
