Aspen String Trio in concert March 18

Furman University hosts the Aspen String Trio in a concert Monday, March 18 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall. The trio will present a free master class 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 in Daniel Recital Hall.

The performance is open to the public, and is a Sound Quality Series event. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students.

After twenty years of friendship and music-making, Aspen String Trio members David Perry (violin), Victoria Chiang (viola), and Michael Mermagen (cello) have joined together as an ensemble. These world-class instrumentalists each have a long-time association as artist-faculty with the Aspen Music Festival; combined they have performed in the world’s most prestigious venues.

Known for offering virtuoso performances with humor and insight, the ensemble performs works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as lesser-known works by Dohnany, Hindemith, Martin?, Rozsa, Gideon Klein, Veress, Villa-Lobos and Ysaye, among others. An upcoming project includes recording the string trios and other music of Martin? for the Naxos label.
