Furman Wind Ensemble to present concert

The Furman University Wind Ensemble will present a concert Friday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on campus.

A Sound Quality Series event, “La Fiesta” will be conducted by Furman director of bands, Leslie W. Hicken. The concert is open to the public and is part of Furman’s Cultural Life Program events. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $3 for students.

Also conducting will be Furman’s director of athletic bands Jay A. Bocook. Guest composer Steve Hicken will premiere his “Concerto for Percussion and Wind Ensemble,” with Furman music faculty member Omar Carmenates performing as percussion soloist.

The program also includes “Fiesta del Pacifico” by Roger Nixon, “Sensemaya” by Silvestre Revueltas and “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez.

The Furman Wind Ensemble will also release its latest CD, “Wild Nights” featuring highlights from the ensemble’s performance last April in Chicago’s historic Symphony Hall.
