Guest artist concert Tuesday, Jan. 22

Julia Heinen (clarinet) and Dmitry Rachmanov (piano) will present a concert Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on the Furman University campus.

The concert is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Furman University Music Department.

The performance by the music professors from California State University, Northridge includes selections by Arthur Bliss, Jean Françaix, Marc Eychenne, Louis Cahuzac, Charles-Marie Widor and Scott McAllister.

Heinen is an accomplished solo, chamber, ensemble and orchestral musician. A performance of new works at Carnegie Hall culminated in a 2007 CD released by Centaur Records. A recording of new chamber works for the Tapestry Ensemble, a quartet of oboe, clarinet, cello and piano, was released in 2011 by PARMA. A recording of works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Eychenne and Guastavino for clarinet and piano with Rachmanov will be released this spring.

Heinen has performed with Tapestry Ensemble, TEMPO New Music Ensemble, the American Wind Symphony, and several symphony orchestras as principal clarinetist throughout the United States.

An artist and clinician for the Buffet and Rico Corporations, Heinen conducts clinics and master classes in universities and colleges nationwide. She holds a master’s from the University of Michigan, an artist diploma from Northwestern University and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

Rachmanov has been heard at venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, London’s Barbican and South Bank Centres, and Beijing Concert Hall. He has recorded for Naxos, Omniclassic, Master Musicians and Vista Vera labels, and collaborated as a soloist with Manhattan Philharmonia, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and other orchestras in the United States, Europe and Ukraine.

A master class clinician and lecturer, Rachmanov has served on the faculties of Manhattan School of Music, Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and Long Island Conservatory, SUNY, and has appeared as a guest artist at schools such as Royal Northern College of Music, UCLA, University of Chicago, Indiana University at Bloomington, Brandeis University, and many other universities throughout the United States and China.

Rachmanov has been a frequent adjudicator at competitions in the United States and in Europe. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School and holds a doctorate from Manhattan School of Music.
