The Furman Advantage includes the goal of making “real the citizenship promises of a liberal arts education.” To be an engaged citizen and leader requires believing you have the ability to affect change in your community whether you hold a formal leadership position or not, building coalitions of diverse stakeholders to work toward positive change, and allowing those impacted by the change input so that an equitable decision can be made.
LE@F — Leaders Engaged at Furman — is an opportunity for our newest community members to make their mark on campus and beyond. Students will develop leadership skills for effecting positive change while also having fun getting to know new classmates. Slots are limited and preference will be given to those whose voices that have been historically underrepresented in higher education (students of low- to moderate-income, students of color, students who are the first in their family to attend college, and more).
Cost: This program is free as it is expected participants will give back their time and talents to the Furman community and leave it better than they found it.
