Track Information
Furman offers two tracks for the Special Education concentration: the Learning Disability Track and the Emotional & Behavioral Disorders Track.
These programs include preparation for special education through courses dealing with the nature of a specific disability and the related practica. Teachers who are pursuing this degree learn even more specialized intervention techniques and strategies to deal appropriately with children with special needs. The final practicum allows students to apply their skills and knowledge in a real-world setting.
Scholarships Available
The Waco F. Childers, Jr. and Elaine Duffy Childers Special Education Scholarship is available to Furman graduate students! Accepted applicants who are selected to receive the scholarship must agree to complete the certification program in special education. A graduate of Furman University, Mrs. Childers was a retired teacher, who held a special place in her heart for special needs students and the teachers who have a passion for seeing them succeed. Therefore, the scholarship usually covers most tuition costs associated with this master of arts degree.
