Required Steps
- Complete a graduate application: You may complete and submit the Graduate Studies Application online.
- Submit your official college transcripts: Check with your undergraduate registrar to have sealed transcripts sent to us. If you are already a Furman student, we will have your transcripts.
- Additional application requirements may vary by program: Check program pages for additional requirements or begin your application and follow all prompts.
Admissions Criteria
Students seeking admission to this Master of Science program will be considered for admission provided they have completed their undergraduate studies with a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.00.
Incoming students are also expected to have successfully completed introductory courses in biology and genetics, two terms of general chemistry and at least one term of organic chemistry with two terms strongly recommended.
Candidates must also submit:
- a graduate admissions application, accompanied by a one-time, non-refundable application fee
- Three professional recommendations (recommend at least one academic reference)
- MCAT, DAT, and/or GRE scores (optional)
- official transcripts from each higher education institution previously attended
Application Timeline for Summer 2023 cohort:
- November 1 – application opens

- May 15 – Enrollment Deposit of $500 due
- May 26– Summer tuition due
- June 5 – Summer session begins
Tuition and Fees
The application fee is $85 (non-refundable).
Cost per term for 2022-2023 (summer, fall, spring) is $9,250 and is due by a date set each term.
Cost per term for 2023-2024 (summer, fall, spring) is $9,528 and is due by a date set each term.

Application Requirements

- Portfolio of 3-5 pieces of previous creative work
- Statement of Intent (500 words)
- Admission Interview
- Minimum Undergraduate GPA: 2.5 (2.75 preferred) or with permission of the Program Director upon application and/or appeal.
- Official transcripts from each higher education institution previously attended
- Evidence of Competency in Digital Technology (i.e. Photoshop or like platforms) as measured by courses taken through undergraduate, portfolio pieces, or through the interview process.

Application Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in a critical needs content area with minimum 2.75 GPA (3.0 preferred) from Furman or another accredited college or university;
- Praxis II content exam passing score;
- Writing sample (ex. 200-300 words on why you would be a good candidate for the Master of Arts in Teaching program. Include why you are interested in pursuing this degree and explain why you’d like to become a teacher.)
- Transcript evaluation to assess content preparation (for those applicants only who do not hold a Furman degree in order to insure a minimum of 30 credits in the content area)

Application Requirements
To be admitted to our Graduate Studies in Education program, you must meet the following requirements:
- A South Carolina teaching certificate or equivalent (or eligible for certification). Note: Professional level teaching certification is needed for School Leadership programs, and Admin certification is needed for the EdS in Educational Leadership program.
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution or a Teacher Education Program that is recognized by the South Carolina Department of Education.
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 in undergraduate coursework (3.0 preferred).
Cost
Approximately $27,720 or $770 per credit hour
