The <\/span><\/span>AI Summer Institute <\/span><\/span><\/span>(Thursdays, 9am\u20131pm, July 16 to August 6)<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong> is a hands-on workshop series for faculty and academic staff who teach departmental courses and want to explore how artificial intelligence can support teaching and learning. The institute is especially well suited for those who are new to AI, and no prior knowledge or experience is required. Participants will experiment with AI tools, design an AI-integrated assignment or course <\/span>component<\/span> for their own class, and receive a <\/span><\/span>$1,000 stipend<\/span><\/span><\/strong> along with lunch during each session.<\/span><\/span> Read more about the AI Institute and apply online<\/a> by April 29.<\/span><\/p>\n

Course Redesign Seminar <\/span><\/span><\/b>(June 8\u201312, 9am\u201312:30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)<\/em>:<\/strong> In this seminar, we’ll co-create an engaging journey in pedagogical innovation as you develop or redesign an upcoming course to amplify student engagement. We’ll put the liberal arts in action through dialogic moments\u2014dialoguing ourselves and designing opportunities for authentic exchange where students can question, connect, and make meaning together. Grounded in backward design (Fink, 2005), our adventure includes road-testing evidence-based strategies that spark learner efficacy and excitement.\u00a0Complete three of four sessions to earn a $1,000 stipend<\/strong> for this professional development experience. The <\/span><\/span>2026\u201327 WR Faculty Institute <\/span><\/span><\/span>(July 20\u201322, 9am\u201312pm and 1pm\u20134pm on the first two days; 9am\u20131pm on the last day)<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong> is a three-day summer workshop designed to help Furman faculty develop practical strategies for teaching writing and research in their courses. Participants will explore foundational concepts from Writing Studies, learn research-based approaches to teaching disciplinary writing, and leave with concrete tools\u2014such as assignments, rubrics, and lesson ideas\u2014to support effective WR course design. Faculty selected for the program will also receive a <\/span><\/span>$500 stipend<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and opportunities for continued conversation and community during the following academic year.<\/span><\/span> Read more about the 26-27 WR Faculty Institute and apply online<\/a> by April 10.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meet our new AI-powered SoTLBot\u2122 <\/strong><\/span>\u2014 a guide for instructors at every stage of pedagogical inquiry, including the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). We invite instructors to join a summer focus group (three brief meetings, scheduled by the group)<\/em><\/strong> to share their experience with the bot. No AI or SoTL expertise required \u2014 all voices welcome! Participants receive a $100 stipend<\/strong>.
