There is a cacophony of emotions at play here \u2013 excitement about the possibilities, uncertainty about implementation and potential misuse, and a healthy amount of skepticism about this new frontier. One thing is certain, GAI is becoming more and more integrated into our personal and professional lives. Despite the swift evolutionary trajectory of GAI (and the reality that it will continually adapt), the Faculty Development Center remains invested in a careful, curious, and cautious process of pedagogical exploration as we adjust to this new normal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As we have worked with colleagues this summer to consider GAI-focused course adaptation and integration, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leonfurze.com\/2023\/12\/18\/the-ai-assessment-scale-version-2\/comment-page-1\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">AI Assessment Scale<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, recently refined by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open-publishing.org\/journals\/index.php\/jutlp\/article\/view\/810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Perkins and colleagues<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, has provided a helpful starting point to think about if, how, and under what circumstances instructors might integrate or allow the use of GAI tools in their courses. Relatedly, when it comes to using the power of GAI to boost course planning you might consider joining our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/faculty-development-center\/event\/ai-powered-assignments-assessment-enhancing-course-design-with-artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">AI-Powered Assignment and Assessment Workshop<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> on Wednesday, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">September 4 at 3:15 p.m. in Duke Library 042<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. In our recent Faculty Colloquium session on GAI course integration, workshop facilitators shared an evolving <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/furman.box.com\/s\/3it1yo205nutunleb3hy2s2s1supg4vz\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">FAQ document<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> that answers some common questions about the technology. Finally, the FDC maintains a list of current <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/furman.box.com\/s\/rnruf23z932uksyzi34rwwqz0v4pe70g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">GAI learning opportunities<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As we continue to explore the potential of GAI in our work and classrooms, please know that Faculty Development Center <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/faculty-development-center\/contact\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">staff are available<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to support your thoughtful and informed decision-making about the technology.
