Institutional Review Board<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Furman University is dedicated to the protection of both the rights and welfare of volunteer human subjects engaged in research endeavors under the auspices of the university.\u202f The university has entered into an agreement with the Office for Human Research Protocol (OHRP) termed the IRB Registration and Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) program, pledging compliance with the \u201cCommon Rule\u201d for federally supported research.\u202f Furman University will apply this Assurance to all research using human subjects, irrespective of the funds or guidance of the research.\u202f To this end, the university has established an Institutional Review Board<\/a> for Proposed Research Involving Human Subjects, referred to as the IRB.\u00a0<\/span>Guidelines<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are adopted from those guidelines detailed in the IRB guidebook by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office for Human Research Protections.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding from corporations, foundations and federal and state agencies contribute significantly to faculty and undergraduate research, scholarships, internships, capital improvements, and equipment acquisitions, as well as to endowments for these and other purposes. The South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc., (SCICU) Student\/Faculty Research Program was created to engage students in professionally guided primary research, which will develop critical thinking, inquiry, and communication skills. Associated Colleges of the South<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ACS brings together faculty, staff, and administrative leaders across our 16 campuses to engage in creative programming. ACS grant themes \u2013 innovative instruction, collaborative curriculum, and diversity and inclusion \u2013 are intended to strengthen each institution and our collective mission. Office of Integrative Research in the Sciences (OIRS)<\/span><\/i>\u00a0\u2013 OIRS works to\u00a0<\/span>establish programmatic awards from federal (e.g., NIH, NSF) and private sources to support faculty scholarship in STEM and related fields through summer salary, supplies, student stipends, and travel.
