  • What do you like to do in your spare time? Camp, canoe, hike and bike.

  • Where are you from? I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and lived there until the age of 10 when my family relocated to Naples, FL.
  • How do you identify / preferred pronouns? Female; She / Her / Hers.
  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? It means living my life authentically and not having to hide any part of who I am while encouraging others to also be true to themselves and proud of who they are.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? In my spare time, I drink entirely too much coffee and I go to the gym and lifting heavy things. I also love to hike, ride bikes on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, standup paddle board, and camp with my better half and our dogs.
  • What is one thing about you that no one would guess?  I have jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, better known as skydiving.

  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? It means having the freedom to be who I am with my friends and colleagues, being an advocate for LGBTQ rights, and supporting those in our community who are discovering or coming to terms with their identity.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to knit, cook, hang out with my husband and adopted son, and I am a huge fan of the opera (from Bellini to Gounod to Verdi).
  • What is one thing about you that no one would guess?  I absolutely hate Flamingos; I think it may have something to do with falling waist deep in flamingo feces when I was on safari in Africa as an 11-year-old kid.

  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? Being “Out and Proud” at Furman to me means making myself visible to not only other staff and faculty but to our students as well!
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? Following politics, watching Netflix, spending a day on Lake Tillery in North Carolina with friends and family.

  • What do you like to do in your spare time? On my spare time, I like to cook, grow green vegetables in the garden, play with my cats, and hike in the mountains with my partner.

  • What do you like to do in your spare time?  I am a hobbyist, always looking for a new project or craft to take on.

  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? Claiming my own uniqueness while working to build a fully inclusive culture at Furman where difference is celebrated and we find pride in our diversity of strengths.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? Watch birds (bird nerd alert!), exercise, line dance, share meals with friends, practice walking meditation, and cuddle with my dog!
  • What is one thing about you that no one would guess?  I’ve been known to binge watch British TV dramas.

  • Where are you from? I was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida.
  • How do you identify / preferred pronouns? I identify as a gay man/cisgender whose preferred pronouns are he/him/his.
  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? For me, “Out and Proud” at Furman means that I am open about my sexual orientation and the fact that I had a partner for 24 years.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy exercising, cooking, playing the trumpet, writing poetry, painting, and photography.
  • What is one thing about you that no one would guess?  One thing that no one would guess about me is that I have a fraternal twin brother (he’s seven minutes older).

  • Where are you from? I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio but I moved here from Honolulu, HI which is where I completed my PhD.
  • How do you identify / preferred pronouns? I identify as queer and use she/her pronouns.
  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? Being “out and proud” at Furman means being visible to ensure students, faculty, and staff know there is an LGBTQ+ presence on campus. It also means working toward listening (actively) more than I talk to help create safe space where others can share.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? In my spare time I like to go to concerts, be in nature (beaches, hiking, etc.), and watch tv with my partner and our cat.
  • What is one thing about you that no one would guess?   One thing about me that no one would likely guess is that I’m an avid hula-hooper. I even have a new LED and fire hoop!

  • What does being “Out and Proud” at Furman mean to you? It means being part of an inclusive community where everyone is accepted for who they are. I think it is important for students and the community to know that Furman is a place for everyone.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to travel, cook, birdwatch, play board games, manage my Animal Crossing island, and spend time with my wife and cats.
