Meghan is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences at Furman with expertise in Public Health, Nutrition and Epidemiology. She completed her MBSR teacher training with The Mindfulness Center at Brown University and The Center for Mindfulness at University of Massachusetts Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>A partnership between the Cothran Center and Dr. Meghan Slining allows the Center to subsidize the cost of the course enabling Furman alumni + friends and family to enroll in MBSR for a significantly reduced rate.<\/p>\n<p>The MBSR course is typically offered once a year in the fall semester. Please check back for details about the next MBSR offering! Please email Whitney Brown at <a href=\"mailto:whitney.brown@furman.edu\">whitney.brown@furman.edu<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>What is MBSR?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>8-week evidence-based, participatory course that provides intensive training in mindfulness meditation and movement practices.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn tools to manage the pains and stresses of life<\/li>\n<li>Cultivate present moment awareness<\/li>\n<li>Change habitual stress-reactivity patterns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>What to expect:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Orientation (1.5 hours, required for enrollment), scheduled for one week before class<\/li>\n<li>Eight weekly classes, 2.5 hours each<\/li>\n<li>Instruction in formal and informal MBSR meditation practices<\/li>\n<li>Gentle stretching and mindful yoga<\/li>\n<li>Structured group dialogue<\/li>\n<li>One All-Day class on a Saturday<\/li>\n<li>Daily home practice assignments<\/li>\n<li>Online resource materials, including guided meditation recordings<\/li>\n<li>The opportunity for one-on-one check-ins with the instructor throughout the course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cothran Center is thrilled to periodically offer Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for Furman alumni + friends and family.
