{"id":303,"date":"2020-02-03T16:25:20","date_gmt":"2020-02-03T16:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/center-engaged-learning\/?page_id=303"},"modified":"2020-02-03T16:25:20","modified_gmt":"2020-02-03T16:25:20","slug":"furman-university-statement-regarding-coronavirus-and-travel-to-china","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/center-engaged-learning\/center-for-engaged-learning\/furman-university-statement-regarding-coronavirus-and-travel-to-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman University statement regarding coronavirus and travel to China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Jan. 30, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/detail\/30-01-2020-statement-on-the-second-meeting-of-the-international-health-regulations-(2005)-emergency-committee-regarding-the-outbreak-of-novel-coronavirus-(2019-ncov)\">Public Health Emergency of International Concern<\/a>\u00a0(PHEIC), and\u00a0 the U.S. Department of State (DOS) raised the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/traveladvisories\/traveladvisories\/china-travel-advisory.html\">Travel Advisory for China<\/a>\u00a0to a Level 4: Do Not Travel. As a result, all university-sponsored student travel\u00a0to China during MayX and Summer\u00a0is prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>With regards to the Fall 2020 semester program to China, Furman continues to monitor the situation and will make a final determination by April 1.<\/p>\n<p>This respiratory illness was first identified in Wuhan in December.\u00a0The cases reported thus far in the U.S. and other countries were all connected to individuals who had recently traveled from Wuhan.<\/p>\n<p>None of the reported cases have any connection to Furman. The Centers\u00a0for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
