Heather Newman MS, ATC, CSCS

Assistant Director of Campus Recreation
Heather has been a Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach for over 15 years.
Her undergraduate degree is from Ithaca College in Athletic Training/Exercise Science with minors in Health and Psychology.  Her Master’s Degree in Sports Management was earned from the United States Sports Academy.

Heather has worked with a variety of athletes which include arena football teams in Louisiana and Greenville as well as the former Greenville Growl Hockey team.  Previously at Furman, Heather was the Strength and Conditioning Coach for female athletes  She was the Director of a sports performance training facility before returning to Furman in the sports medicine department- working with women’s soccer and cross country/track teams.  Heather currently
manages the daily operations of the pool and fitness center and also does individual or group personal training. ​

Mickey McCauley

Fitness Center Assistant
McCauley attended Furman, where he was a member of the track and field and cross country programs. He is a certified personal trainer by the American Council of Exercise and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is also a personal running coach, and a USA Track and Field certified level II coach. For more than a decade, McCauley has been coaching runners and developing running programs. He is a faculty member of the Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST). With his extensive running background, McCauley specializes in working with track athletes and runners of all abilities. He also works one-on-one to provide personal training to individuals who want to improve their quality of life and fitness level through cardiovascular training, resistance training, and sound nutritional habits.
