Hey <\/span>everyone<\/span>! My name <\/span>is Camila Canavati, and I am a first year student who is an aspiring communication studies<\/a> major<\/span> on the media studies track<\/a><\/span>. <\/span>My hometown is Florence, South Carolina, but I’m so excited to call Furman my home for the next four years<\/span>!<\/span><\/span> I’m looking forward to my role as a social media intern and sharing my first year experience with prospective students! <\/span>\"\"\"\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fun Facts About Me<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

To <\/span>share <\/span>some <\/span>niche <\/span>information about myself, I love everything that social media encapsulates, which is why I am so excited to be a social media intern! <\/span>I am also\u00a0 <\/span>fluent <\/span>in <\/span>both <\/span>Spanish and English,<\/span> listening to music is the most <\/span>therapeutic<\/span> outlet <\/span>for me,<\/span> and <\/span>I believe fashion<\/span> is the best way to<\/span> portray one’s personality!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Why I Chose Furman<\/h3>\n

The most common<\/span> question <\/span>people asked me in high school was <\/span>\u201c<\/span>why Furman?<\/span>\u201d<\/span> and to that I<\/span> would always<\/span> say <\/span>\u201c<\/span>why n<\/span>ot?<\/span>\u201d <\/span>The leading reason <\/span>as to why <\/span>I selected Furma<\/span>n <\/span>was because <\/span>I wanted to <\/span>attend a university <\/span>that had a big school feel with all the small school advantages.<\/span> Furman\u2019s campus <\/span>is beautifully laid<\/span> out,<\/span> which <\/span>allows for <\/span>the <\/span>big <\/span>college<\/span> feel<\/span>,<\/span> but the connection with classmates and professors draws in the small school <\/span>advantages<\/span>. <\/span>Other than this,<\/span> I may have had an extr<\/span>a reason to love this institution. My older sister is a senior here at Furman and as her baby sister I have always viewed her as my biggest role model. \"\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When she fell in love with <\/span>Furman in<\/span> her last year of high school, I <\/span>immediately<\/span> shared the same sentiments. Over her <\/span>time<\/span> here<\/span> and all throughout <\/span>every single <\/span>one of<\/span> my<\/span> visits,<\/span> I did not <\/span>just fall in love with Furman because of my sister, but <\/span>because<\/span> it was truly the most <\/span>astonishing <\/span>college <\/span>campus I had ever <\/span>seen<\/span>. Once it <\/span>was finally<\/span> time to appl<\/span>y to colleges, <\/span>I wanted to keep my options <\/span>open, but Furman was always in the back of my mind<\/span>. <\/span>C<\/span>ollege visit<\/span> after college visit,<\/span> my mother and I <\/span>always <\/span>found ourselves saying \u201cit’s just not Furman<\/span>\u201d<\/span> in the car <\/span>ride <\/span>on the way home. Nothing compares to Furman, which is why I followed in my sister’s footsteps\u2014I’ll admit, she has impeccable taste! I chose Furman because I want people to know me by name, not just as a number.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Embracing Community at Furman<\/h3>\n

All my education years <\/span>were spent<\/span> in private <\/span>schools,<\/span> so <\/span>I<\/span> cherished<\/span> the relationships I had with my teachers and administrators. The school that I attended always felt like a second home <\/span>to me<\/span> because<\/span> I viewed everyone there as my family.<\/span> So, when it came to selecting a university after high school, I was eager to <\/span>feel that same comfort. \"\"<\/span>Furman University was the only place where I felt I would receive a sense of community<\/span>, a rigorous learning environment, and a relationship with professors<\/span>. This is not only what brought me to Furman but<\/span> what keeps me here. In my first month as a student here, I have created<\/span> connections with my professors and all the <\/span>extraordinary<\/span> students<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My Hope to Make an Impact as a Social Media Intern<\/h3>\n

This internship <\/span>to me is an outlet where I can create content that will hopefully <\/span>draw <\/span>people <\/span>to <\/span>attend Furman and <\/span>call<\/span> it their forever home. I aspire to<\/span> be a source of inspiration for prospective students and if I can <\/span>carry out<\/span> that as a social media intern <\/span>then<\/span> I will <\/span>have achieved my<\/span> goal<\/span>. I am passionate about this internship and Furman <\/span>University,<\/span> and I am eager to add my <\/span>creative<\/span> to<\/span>uch to this camp<\/span>us<\/span>!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
