The Political Thought Club is a student-led group supported by the Tocqueville Program. We meet each Friday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Political Science Seminar Room to discuss selected readings from the history of political philosophy and from contemporary works that address politics from a philosophic perspective. We read a short selection each week (approximately 10-15 pages). The Political Thought Club also supports lectures and invites scholars to visit the Club to present their work.
Our readings are based the interests of the students involved in the group. In the past, we’ve read works by Blaise Pascal, Friedrich Nietzsche, Charles Darwin, Martin Heidegger, Alexis de Tocqueville, Hans Jonas, Edmund Burke, and Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
Our generous alumni have provided funding that allows us to purchase books for all students in the group. Please feel welcome to join us at any time!
