Main Stage<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At the center of Furman’s theatre world is the Main Stage<\/strong><\/a>\u2014a cozy, 110-seat venue<\/strong> that fosters a uniquely intimate connection between performers and audience. Equipped with a modern lighting system, exceptional acoustics, and even a hearing-loop assisted listening system, it\u2019s built for remarkable theatrical engagement. This is where the Main Stage productions come to life\u2014typically four per season\u2014drawing both campus and community audiences into the dramatic pulse of Furman\u2019s theatre programs.<\/p>\n

Design Lab<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Adjacent to the Playhouse is the Playhouse Annex Design Lab<\/strong><\/a>, a digital and analog creative hub. Students can visualize their ideas using drafting tables, computer workstations, and the latest design software\u2014whether for scenic layouts, lighting plans, costume concepts, or promotional posters and flyers. This space bridges imagination and execution, giving students the tools to bring their creative visions to life.<\/p>\n

Scene Shop<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Behind the curtain lies the Scene Shop<\/strong><\/a>, a fully equipped fabrication center essential for building the worlds seen on stage. Featuring tools like an assembly table, chop saw, table saw, router, drill press, and dust collection systems, this is where theatrical structures and scenery are shaped with precision and care.<\/p>\n

Costume Shop<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the Costume Shop<\/strong><\/a>, craftsmanship meets creativity. From sewing and tailoring period-accurate garments to crafting original designs, students collaborate to master visual storytelling through fabric and form. It\u2019s a hub of artistry where costumes are imagined, constructed, and refined.<\/p>\n

Studio Theatre<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Furman\u2019s Studio Theatre<\/strong><\/a> acts as both a performance and rehearsal space for experimental and emerging works. Equipped with a dance floor and full body mirrors, this space is flexible and comfortable for making theatre and shaping dance. Often used for student-driven productions and creative labs, the small booth has theatrical lighting and sound equipment.<\/p>\n

Student Lounge<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Student Lounge<\/strong> is a welcoming space where theatre students gather\u2014ideal for relaxing, collaborating on ideas, sharing stories, and building camaraderie between rehearsals and classes. Production meetings and student organization meetings happen here – along with the occasional nap between classes!<\/p>\n

Re-imagining The Playhouse<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Furman Theatre Arts is seeking $6-10 million in support of renovations and the possible expansion of the current Playhouse theatre facility. The Playhouse is the hub for top-quality pedagogy, programming, and performances, which includes the Furman University Theatre main stage season that entertains, educates, and engages thousands of students and patrons each year. Despite our \u201ctemporary\u201d home remaining relatively unchanged for decades, The Playhouse has supported hundreds of theatre majors and countless other students who participate in classes, on stage, and behind the scenes.
